Best way to look after an orchid?

A few of these have died on me and was wondering if i did somthing wrong, how much sunlight, best room to have them in and how much water will keep them alive and growing perfectly,

someone did say i can get plant food to help is this true and is there a specific type to choose to help them.

Orchids are one of the flowers I hesitate to grow as they can be quite moody. There is actually a For Dummies book titled "Orchids for dummies" that may be helpful to you.
