How often do you water your broccoli?
#1
I just transplanted some broccoli into containers in zone 9b. How often do you water your broccoli? Do they require a lot of water?

If the soil is moist, you don't need to water your broccoli every day. By the way, if your broccoli is giving fruits you need to water it more.

How did your broccoli turn out? What did you end up doing as far as watering goes?
I have found they can be quite hardy & you don't need to water daily.

Consistent Moisture is Crucial
Broccoli needs evenly moist soil, especially during head formation. Letting the soil dry out can lead to tough, bitter heads or premature bolting (flowering).

General Frequency

In-ground gardens: 1–1.5 inches of water per week, including rainfall.

Containers/raised beds: May need watering every 1–2 days in hot/dry weather.

Cool/cloudy weather: Reduce frequency to avoid waterlogged soil.

Check Soil Before Watering
Stick your finger 1–2 inches deep into the soil. If it feels dry, water thoroughly. Broccoli prefers deep, infrequent watering over light daily sprinkles to encourage strong root growth.

Watering Method Matters

Use drip irrigation or soaker hoses at the base to keep foliage dry (reduces fungal diseases).

Avoid overhead watering if possible.
