Always adding blood meal at the beginning of when you transplant but do you fertilize in the middle when the plant is growing if so , what do you use?

I have never heard about this blood meal, but just read this article and found it has lot of benefits. High in Nitrogen

In these modern days people are trusting their own home made compost is better for health than bought from shops. Blood meal works excellently as per some gardeners told, but I don't have any experience with it.
