Avocado is a fruit. It grow in trees. Growing avocado is not very difficult. You can easily sprout an avocado plant from the deeds.

I think it's similar to how we view tomatoes. We use it as a vegetable when technically it's a fruit. I know of many people who have tried sprouting one from seeds with success. Only problem with it is, here anyways, avocadoes cannot grow in our colder climate outdoors.

Botanically, an avocado is a fruit—specifically a single-seeded berry. But in the kitchen, its savory flavor and common uses in salads and dips mean most people treat it like a vegetable. Think of it like a tomato: a scientific fruit that acts like a veggie.

It's a fruit by definition because it contains a seed, but its creamy, savory nature makes it function more like a vegetable in our meals. So you're technically both right depending on whether you're talking to a botanist or a chef
