"Honestly, I just grow whatever I can keep alive! ? I started with cherry tomatoes and basil because everyone said they were easy. They were right! Now I'm hooked.
I tried carrots, but my soil was too rocky, and I ended up with these weird, stunted little things. Lesson learned! This year, I'm adding zucchini because a coworker promised me one plant will feed my whole street. We'll see! For me, 'enjoyable' just means something that actually grows and doesn't die if I forget to water it for a day."

"My preference is 100% driven by my kitchen. I grow things that are expensive to buy, lose flavor quickly after picking, or are hard to find.
Top of my list: Heirloom Tomatoes: The flavor of a sun-warmed Brandywine is something you cannot buy in a store. Fresh Herbs: Rosemary, thyme, basil, and chervil. The difference between clipped-in-the-moment herbs and store-bought in a plastic tub is night and day. Salad Greens: A mesclun mix with arugula and mizuna. It's so much more peppery and delicate than anything you can get pre-washed. French Filet Beans: They are tender and perfect, but you have to pick them at the exact right time. A true gardener's treat. I don't bother with potatoes or onions. They're cheap and store well, so they aren't worth my garden space."

"My preference is for plants that prefer to be left alone! I'm all about perennials and self-seeders.
Asparagus: A bit of work to establish, but then it comes back every year for 20 years with minimal effort. Rhubarb: Same deal. It's a beast that just needs dividing every so often. Cherry Tomatoes: I let a few fall and rot each year, and now I have volunteer plants that pop up every spring without me doing a thing. Herbs: Oregano, mint, and chives. Once they're in, they're in forever. Sometimes too much so! ? If a plant needs coddling, staking, or daily attention, it's not for me." What about the rest of you? What drives your veggie preferences?

I grow tomatoes and peppers are hugely popular for their rewarding harvests! Leafy greens like spinach are also a favorite for their fast growth. What are your go-to veggies to grow?

Garlic. It’s a long commitment (plant in fall, harvest next summer), but pulling up those fat, fragrant bulbs is better than Christmas. You get to brush off the soil and see what you’ve created. Plus, it stores for ages. Growing your own garlic feels like a core life skill to me. The scapes in early summer are a delicious bonus harvest!
