  Using Cover Crops
Posted by: Jayson - 10-02-2018, 10:50 PM - Forum: Soil - Replies (3)

Some farmers plant a big load of cover crops, crops not harvested but only used to preserve nutrients, during the off-season.  OK, who has done this and what crops do you recommend?

Anyway, some benefits of cover crops are the following:

  • soil quality improvement
  • a bulwark against erosion
  • improved fertility
  • insect prevention
  • weed prevention
OK, the crops that I read are good cover crops are:
  • oats
  • soybeans
  • clovers
  • rye
  • alfalfa

  Methods of Removing Weeds
Posted by: Jayson - 10-02-2018, 10:41 PM - Forum: Plants - Replies (3)

Some have commented they are simply a fact of life - so no sense whining over it!  Nonetheless, I was wondering about advanced strategies to get rid of them.

OK, what are some organic and non-organic ways of going about this?

  Grow Lights
Posted by: Jayson - 10-02-2018, 10:37 PM - Forum: Plants - Replies (4)

Who has used them?  What are the best brands?  What are the best prices on them (cheapest, best value etc.)?  What are good strategies on using them?

Anyway, I'm a bit confused on whether healthy plants can come about without grow lights.  OK, at the least, are those plants good enough for personal use, but maybe not good enough for commercial production?

From what I read, poor air circulation, as well as humidity are major factors in causing fungal disease.  OK, have any of you had experiences with this?  If so, how did you recover from your problem?  Well, of course, one way to fix things is simply to circulate more air and reduce humidity.  However, though, I heard about neem oil and how it helped out.  Who has used that?

Does it have one? If so, which types have a larger one?  Is less potent fertilizer still worth something, assuming it exists?

  Growing a Hedge

What is a method of getting a hedge fast?  What types of plants would grow the most quick?  Also, which are the cheapest to buy and the best value?

Amount of Time Put Into Your Garden
Posted by: Jayson - 10-02-2018, 11:17 AM - Forum: Plants - No Replies

How much on average do you put in a day/week/month?  Do you feel you make good use of your time?  How possibly could you improve things?

Also, if you don't keep track of your time, should you?

If you had a closed terrarium system, would you use this stuff on it?   Note, the one I am mentioning would specifically have moss in it.  Anyway, I know of a story about mold harming moss, so I was wondering about the best protection.

What is the ideal decomposition time?  How about for small piles?  What about medium or large piles say, 8 X 10 X 4 feet?  Note: X means "by".

What are the ideal indoor growing conditions for them?  Is air conditioning bad for them?  How much do they usually cost?  What is a good deal on them?   What can go wrong with them?
