  Boll Weevil Prevention (cotton)
Posted by: Jayson - 01-31-2019, 07:54 AM - Forum: Plants - No Replies

https://news.ncsu.edu/2017/05/boll-weevil-war-2017/

Quote:What adult boll weevils lack in size they make up for with their larvae’s ability to feed on and destroy cotton. Boll weevils entered the U.S. from Mexico in the late 1800s, when they were first spotted in Texas. By the 1920s they had spread through all of the major cotton-producing areas in the country. The scope of the damage was breathtaking, as were the control efforts thrown at this insect: at one time, one-third of the insecticide used in the U.S. was used to combat boll weevils.

I'm wondering about any natural methods. Well, there are some for the home, but how about for the garden?

  Growing Rice Without Mosquitoes
Posted by: Jayson - 01-31-2019, 07:49 AM - Forum: Plants - Replies (2)

Those things, as many know, are massive disease carriers and annoyances - so I'm wondering how to organically keep them out of a rice field.

  Salt Water and Crops
Posted by: Jayson - 01-29-2019, 11:02 AM - Forum: Soil - Replies (2)

I'm assuming it's bad - as it is to drink - so what methods are there to get the salt out, and perhaps use on crops? Who has tried such a method? How did it work out?

  When to grow cabbage?
Posted by: Jayson - 12-21-2018, 10:43 PM - Forum: vegetables - Replies (6)

I was reading they like the cold. In that case, early spring was advised for planting. OK, when do you all plant them? Any other advice?

In the Past - No Pesticide - How did they manage?
Posted by: Jayson - 12-21-2018, 10:42 PM - Forum: vegetables - Replies (1)

Obviously, for thousands of years people still ate food. What are some specific things they did? Anyway, surely the yields were not as big - yet, it didn't matter because the population wasn't that large!

  Horseradishes
Posted by: Jayson - 12-21-2018, 10:39 PM - Forum: vegetables - Replies (1)

From what I read, they are incredibly invasive. In fact, they are known to take over everything - so many people restrict them to closed-off areas.

Anyway, my own experience with the stuff is simply eating horseradish sauce - which taste really good on roast beef, Who has had it?
